AYC sailed into the 2013 spring racing season with the Tulip Regatta organized by Walt Meagher and was enjoyed by all. Six dvisions and 38 boats hoisted sails and did battle on courses chosen by PRO Chris White and a hearty crew of volunteers including chase boat skippers Pat Barrett and Bernie Selting. On the "Pacific Drifetr owned by AYC members Jan and Sean Kelly a host of AYC members led by Laurie Gillmer and audited by Kyle Saum, fired off races ably assisted by Pam Mickelwait and others. The wind was shifty and the rain came and went but the competition was fierce. A protest was filed, a Survivor challenge was held at the club, no one fell into the construction hole, and the videos captured by the photo boats were the highlight of the weekend. AYC turned out in full force to support the regatta T-shirt vendors, bar tenders, committeee boats, and galley people. Bill Bowman singlehandedly handling BBQ clean up, Walt Meagher cracking the whip across the backs of the entire crew for over 20 years and Commodore Steve ably assisted by his wife kept the whole operation running smoothly. No other club in the PNW enjoys the volunteer spirit of the Friday night crew Dave and Esther, the Saturday morning smile of John and Geri, or the Sunday night stamina of Jerry Reilly and Myra Mc Ewan. Sailing, socializing and plenty of AYC hospitality this is what AYC is all about. Come on down and join the fun; it's later than you think....
