Mikey Likes It!!!

AYC members Kevin Welch, Ian and Joy Sloan are currently leading the Melges 24 Worlds being held on the waters of San Francisco Bay hosted by San Francisco YC. If they pull this off it would likely be the best performance by an AYC member boat in the 100 year history of our club. The boat is owned by Kevin, helmed by Ian, Joy does foredeck. They have a practice boat also named Mikey that lives on a hydralift at the top of P-dock and their varsity boat lives on it's trailer in Ian's boatyard on R ave. The Melges Worlds is truly an international event (kinda like the AC is supposed to be) with teams from Switzerland, Germany, and Ireland in the top ten. Where are those Kiwi's? Maybe all the good Kiwi sailors already have jobs with AC campaigns.... Mikey warmed up by competing in the Pre worlds regatta hosted  by St Fancy (Francis) YC as part of the Rolex Big Boat Series last week, they were 5th. Interestingly for you trivia buffs Alan Field who's brother owns Village Pizza/ Wheelhouse placed 6th! GO Atown! 3 days of racing left let's hope Team Mikey can hold it together better than Emirates team NZ......
In other news Captain Midnight also competed at BBS, if you are interested in a sporty new boat called a J-70 (22.8 feets) goto for the write up.
