Cioppino on Friday!!! Only $5!!!

This Friday's $5 night features cioppino!!!

Chef/hosts Jane Billinghurst and Tom Lebovsky, and John and Diane Wilkinson, have planned a menu of cioppino—fish stew with an Italian accent—garlic bread, salad, and dessert. They want you to know that the stew will not contain shellfish but will have green peppers. So polish up your "delizioso" and come join the fun.

Please reserve your spot by Wednesday the 26th so the chefs have plenty on hand.

And the Winner is...

The 2014 Girts Rekevics Memorial Foul Weather Race and Cruise is in the books!!!

More than a dozen intrepid crews braved a chilly wet and snowy day and rode the northeast breeze from Anacortes to Friday Harbor.

The overall winner was Chris Roethle's Emoyeni followed by Wayne Lytle's Peace Keeper with Team Handyman taking the third slot.  Complete results are HERE.

A hot lasagna dinner and drinks at the San Juan Island Yacht Club helped restore everyone's core temperature and a good time was had by all.

If you weren't there, you should have been!

Girts Rekevics Memorial Foul Weather Race/Cruise

With the Super Bowl behind us, the next big sporting event up is the Girts Rekevics Memorial Foul Weather Race/Cruise!!

You don’t want to miss this!  Here’s why:

It’s our season opener.  You know you want to get out!  It’s a great outing.  You get to either race or cruise to Friday Harbor!  Then you get to spend an enjoyable afternoon on the dock with your friends, followed by a lovely evening with cocktails and a lasagna dinner at the San Juan Island Yacht Club!  This venue was a big hit last year.

You can go out to breakfast on Sunday morning, have a visit with all the good AYC folks and our Canadian friends that will be there and then take a leisurely cruise home on Sunday.  When you are back in your slip you will say to yourself: "I'm glad I got out and did that!".

So plan on going!  You can race there!  You can cruise there!  You can even take the ferry there!  There’s no reason you shouldn’t go!

So mark your calendar for February 22nd and head on over HERE and sign up!

A funny thing happened on the way to the club...

The plan is to party at the club and break in the new floor covering and window treatments...So you have your kidney beans soaking for your crock pot of chili to share at the big game. The Velveeta is off the shelf and at the ready. You have your tax return done. In other words let's focus on sailing, (is Baker even open?) If you are planning on Swiftsure or Southern Straits you need to update your state registration, if you are over 30' you need a new customs decal. PIYA has adopted a new set of safety regs called ISAF. PHRF you can sign up on line, if you have a new sail or a new rudder you need to let Mr. Lindberg our club handicapper know. Maybe a bottom scrub? Sign up on the website for the Girts Rekevics Memorial Foul Weather Race/ Cruise to Friday Harbor. In years past the Rough n Ready has been the finish line, this year they are in warmer climes so we need a brave volunteer. Typically a former race will hop on board to handle the timing and recording. Highlights this year include a new perpetual trophy, our Canadian friends joining in, boats from Bellingham, Orcas and a whole passel of those colorful SC-27's. This will be the return of Capt Tom Gilbert in Grafix 2 the Legend Continues, ably assisted by former Knot News editor Dave Martin. Power it, Sail it or Ferry it but get yourself to Friday Harbor and get registered so we don't have a lasagna panic....
