Lidos and the Great Raft Up
Saturday, July 5, six Lido 14s raced on Fidalgo Bay in a productive day practicing for the upcoming Lido 14 Northwest District Championships. The Championships will be hosted by AYC and its Lido Fleet 78 on July 26-27. (For details, see the Notice of Race under Racing, Lido 14s on the AYC website.) The Lidos had hoped to find the massive raft-up of the AYC hometown cruise still intact to offer rides in a Lido following the racing. Somehow the raft up had managed to untangle their multiple anchor lines, spider web in complexity, and make the long treck back to their Anacortes area moorages before the Lidos were on the water for their 1:30 pm start. Two new Lidos were out to race, Trevor Di Marco and crew Dustin just purchased a Lido 6000 series in Oak Harbor and will be sailing here for the rest of the summor. Tony Billera and his wife Katherin came up from south Whidbey and will have their Lido 6000 here through the Northwest District Regatta. Although the wind was light, we got off 5 races with plenty of lead changes throughout. These Lidos will be on the water every Sunday through the Northwest Districts. Maybe next year we can time a Lido race when the great AYC raft-up is still in place.
