Halloween Comes to AYC

Last Wednesday night brought a scene of mayhem and utter destruction to the clubhouse as 13 intent pumpkin carvers attacked their oversized vegetables with knives and scrapers. But, miraculously, through lots of laughter, candy, cake and glitter, 10 amazing works of "art" appeared.  Then on Friday, 5 additional creations entered the competition and the quest was on for best Halloween Pumpkin of 2015.
Top honors, and incredible prizes, were awarded to Lee Schroeder, Beth Bell and Dylan Schwenk. And, as they say, a good time was had by all.

Halloween pumpkin carving

Calling  all pumpkin artists.
This is your time of year. Wed night, October 28, we will meet at the club, 6-8pm, for some old-fashioned pumpkin carving. Bring your pumpkin(s) and carving tools. We will provide newspaper, popcorn/candy and appropriate music (Monster Mash anyone?) and the bar will be open. Definitely bring the kids and grandkids.
Then on Friday, Oct 30, we will have a Halloween Pumpkin contest. This is open to those who carve on Wed or bring one from home. Voting will be from 6:00 to 6:45 with prizes for the winners at 7pm.
Hope to see you at one or both events.

Final, final for 2015!

You know you wanna say you were there! Saturday, Sept, 3rd, 2015 (punctuated correctly) will long be remembered as the Commodores Race that was all that (anda baga chips). Even if'n you missed all the other ultra fun regattas this year, this day is for you. Each year the racers get together to celebrate with the man (or woman) that makes everything happen at the club. First there is a sailing activity, usually with a fair bit of hijinks, then the sailors retire to the club for a little soiree that the Commodore's minions have ordered to honor their leader.  It's all in fun and with a forecast for 62 degrees and wind and sunshine who really needs an excuse to cast off the mooring lines? So either join the crowd at the top of the VIP viewing area at the top of Cap Sante or put a pork chop around your neck a solicit a ride aboard one of the racing dreadnoughts. The races to remember are sailed in November so this is your chance to have a little fun on the water before the witch of November comes stealin....
In other news:
Capt. Trevor showed his transom to the fleet in the final Wednesday night race even though he showed some restraint towards the more senior sailors at the start,
Round the County party is shaping up for Nov. 6th with a fleet over 110 yachts competing with AYC fielding: Passepartout, Sunshine Girl, Pangaea, silly rumpus, Hijinks, Bangarangarang, Emosomething, Wild Blue, Limey Bastard, Celebration(featuring the Snoopy kite), Lil toonces, and Bedoo! Why just one shy of a Baker's dozen!!! Just for good measure I will count Valkyrie to make it happen!!
Of course there is a slough full of AYC sailors on other entries so come come join the fun or lend a hand on Nov. 6th, doors open at 1600hrs..... Hats and cellphones ok:)
Rumor has it Eric B has signed up for another year as head honcho for the racing program, buy him a delicious beaker of his favorite or ask not what he can do for you but what you can do for the AYC racing program:)
